Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is a Title II school with approximately 85% qualifying for free/reduced lunch. In middle school, students float between childhood and adulthood and are in need of more than "ABC's." The Resource team works together to help ensure emotional as well as academic support throughout the year.
We try our best to create classroom environments that are conducive to learning, allowing students to reach their highest potential.
Students often read and write stories to escape from their reality and shift their focus to a world of possibilities. In the stressful climate we all live in, my students come to school and find a comfortable space within the walls of our classroom. Together, students and I, create a positive and reinforcing environment every day. Together we flourish and enhance learning and self-confidence.
My Project
Moving more is good for our bodies, so it's only natural that students moving in the classroom will help boost attention and focus. Mobility desks allow students to stand during the class, which gets their circulation flowing and allows them to move the desk to an area of the classroom that helps them concentrate best.
I would like to make movement part of our classroom culture, so students feel the positive effects of being active in body and mind!
Current research shows that standing classrooms can increase productivity, which can lead to higher academic outcomes in the long run. It also allows students to literally "see eye to eye" with the teacher, who is standing as well. Mobility desks in the classroom will allow students to move themselves, books, and work away from and into larger groups to work and engage in the lessons as works best for their individual needs.
