Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students walk into the classroom every day ready to learn. When school first started my students would say "I can't do this." I would look at my class and tell them that I don't accept hearing the word "can't" in my classroom. I want to hear "I will try my best." Now I have students saying to me, "Look I tried my best and I did it." I want them to know I believe in them and they can be successful.
I teach in a Title 1 school in Illinois where 99% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Even with the hardships that a lot of my kindergartners face, they are still smiling and coming to school ready for a day of learning.
My Project
Right now in my classroom I'm using sheet protectors as a dry erase cover. We put papers in them so that we can write our letters and numbers. We use these over and over, but sheet protectors don't last that long. They get all crinkly and ripped. The write and wipe reusable pockets from Lakeshore Learning are very sturdy and will hold up alot longer. I would also like the thin dry erase markers instead of all the fat tipped ones that I get so that the students have better control of what they are doing. These will also help prevent a lot of paper from being wasted because we can use one paper inside the pocket over and over again.
