Equity Starts Early: Books for K–2 Changemakers

My Project

My Students

I work with a diverse group of K-2 students in a Title I elementary school who receive EC (Exceptional Children) resource services.

My students have unique learning needs and often benefit from extra support in both academics and social-emotional development. What they all share is a strong sense of fairness and curiosity about the world.

My Project

This project will fund a selection of books and a professional resource that promote racial justice, inclusion, and social awareness. These materials will help our young learners understand diversity, build empathy, and grow into informed citizens.

Books like Kids on the March and The Young Activist’s Dictionary of Social Justice will show my students that their voices matter. We Are Gems will provide healing and empowerment for Asian students and promote solidarity among peers. The bilingual title ¿Puede una persona ser ilegal? speaks directly to questions my Latinx students ask. What Is White Privilege? helps unpack a concept that often goes unexplained in early education.

As a teacher, Reading, Writing, and Talk will guide me in creating inclusive, culturally responsive lessons designed for young learners of all abilities.
