My Project
I work with special education students who are in general education classes throughout their school days. These students are struggling on a daily basis to keep up with their typically functioning peers. Many of my students do not want to draw attention to their deficiencies and will go to great lengths to hide them. This can be with nutrition needs or academic supplies. There is a much higher percentage of students with disabilities who are low-income and receive free lunch funding. Our students should not have to face inequities in the school system due to a lack of access to basic supplies.
There are so many academic and social challenges that these students face that I believe we should make the little basic needs something they do not have to worry about.
This project will start in the 2025-2026 school year.
This project is asking for just that. Pre-sharpened pencils allow students not to have to get up to sharpen. Tissues so students are not embarrassed by having to use toilet paper; things like pens and pencils that students need, and not everyone can afford. Students should have easy access to supplies like these so they can focus their attention on their learning!
