This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students at our middle school are part of a wonderfully diverse family community. Our students primarily identify as Latinx. I am a Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) and help site intervention teams develop Intervention (RTI) systems of support for all students, 6-8, in Poway Unified. At my school of practice, the skills I will learn from the Embracing Equity Residency Leadership online professional development training will be utilized to develop teacher training at all 7 middle schools that I currently support and serve.

My Project

I am requesting donor support for a unique opportunity to become an Equity Leader and an Antiracist Educator through the Equity Leadership Residency Program with the non-profit organization, Embracing Equity. This 8 month, online professional development program, will empower me to provide staff and teachers with antiracist, inclusion, and equity professional learning training including a deep understanding of using equity audits to create strong systems of support at all middle schools in my district.

This project will support my growth as a leader to develop and provide professional development for teachers and staff to become equitable, antiracist educators.

This training will also focus on how teachers can understand their racial identity, positional power, and socialization that has shaped the ways in which they teach and practice anti-racism. The aim of the Leadership Residency is both an individual and institutional equity-centered transformation. As an educator of color, I feel strongly that all students, particularly students of color, have limitless learning opportunities to grow and succeed in college and career.
