My students come from homes without technology. Email is not a reliable source for communication for many families. They simply do not have access to the towers the provide signals. Although our district has provided laptops and hot spots, many families are still unable to get a strong enough signal to connect to the internet to continue learning virtually.
Due to the rural location of many students, digital learning is not an equitable option; so, how do I ensure success by delivering the most effective strategies for instruction to provide equitable learning opportunities?
I want to learn more about how to reach these students in low-income families who live in rural locations. These kids need continuity and quality. I want to learn how to better deliver both from any platform.
My Project
Now more than ever, I need to be as prepared as possible for the return to learning. It's too soon to tell if that will be a virtual, traditional, or hybrid model.
I need to be prepared to support the needs of learners through various platforms while being mindful of the abuse and neglect that can come from the difficulties faced by low-income families during this time of financial and medical crisis.
I would like to extend trauma-informed teaching to the platforms that may be required while maintaining best practices. COVID19 has compromised many things for many people, but my high expectations and goals are not one of them!
