This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As an instructional coach dedicated to supporting and coaching new teachers during their crucial first two years in the profession at a low-income high school in Fresno, CA, I witness firsthand the challenges they face.
Many educators entering the classroom find themselves without even the most basic supplies and materials necessary to create engaging and effective learning environments for their students. I plan to give these items to new teachers in need who are lacking vital materials to starting off the school year.
In low-income schools like ours, the lack of essential items like whiteboards, whiteboard markers, staples, tape, and other supplies severely hampers teachers' ability to deliver quality instruction. These seemingly small items play a significant role in facilitating learning experiences and fostering student engagement.
Whiteboards and markers, for instance, offer an interactive platform for teachers to visually represent concepts, brainstorm ideas, check for understanding and encourage student participation through collaborative activities. They promote active learning and allow for quick feedback, essential elements in student comprehension and retention.
Staples and tape may seem mundane, but they are indispensable tools for creating displays, hanging student work, and organizing instructional materials. Without these basic supplies, teachers struggle to maintain an organized and visually stimulating classroom environment that supports student learning and enhances classroom culture.
