Equipping 7th Graders for Success with AVID Binders

My Project

I work with an incredible group of middle schoolers who are energetic, curious, and eager to grow as learners. Many of my students come from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds and are navigating school while balancing many responsibilities at home. They have big dreams and deserve every opportunity to succeed.

To help them thrive, our school implements AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), a college and career readiness program that teaches students how to stay organized, take focused notes, and reflect on their learning.

One essential part of this system is the AVID Binder—an all-in-one tool that helps students develop strong academic habits and take ownership of their learning.

With these materials, my students will be able to stay organized, track their progress, and be fully prepared to participate in WICOR-based instruction (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading) throughout the school year.

Having the right supplies from the beginning sets the tone that every student can and will succeed.

Many of our students face financial challenges that make it difficult to purchase school supplies. This project ensures every student has access to the same materials so that we start the year on equal footing. When students are equipped with the tools they need, they feel confident, capable, and ready to engage.

This isn’t just about binders—it's about building the mindset and habits that help students see themselves as scholars.
