Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This is my 6th year teaching and it amazes me the amount of growth that students have by the end of the year from when they first enter my classroom. We truly believe that we have the best students in our county and a community that is involved in our students well being. The population that we serve in our school is 98 percent Latino students that come from majority Central American countries. I taught at a Dual language immersion school for 2 years and taught upper grades for the past 3 years. I am now an Early Interventionist and working with upper grades with students that need additional supports in Reading. I love every moment of it and I am constantly learning new and effective strategies to help my students become better readers.

What I love about our students is that even in moments of adversity our students find a way to work together to overcome the obstacles that have been placed in front of them.

In my teaching, I use their support for each other to create lessons that require team building, collaboration, and communication. Our students engage in activities and work together to achieve a common goal.

My Project

Since last year I have had a goal to implement an effective Reading program at my school that will help students bridge the gaps in Reading, alleviate teacher workload, and support families and students. This year I have the opportunity to implement a Reading program called LLI that will help our students grow in Reading. I am asking for 4 gift cards to purchase a Running Record tracker for our EIP teachers to use to collect their data. This tool provides videos, resources, and recording features for teachers. I believe this tool will be effective and useful for the proffessional growth of our teachers.

I have taught Reading and have seen the benefits of tracking students growth over time.

We can provide the interventions that they need and change as we see necessary. Our teachers go far and beyond for our students and the tool will be useful to alleviate the paperwork and allow teachers to focus on our students and their needs.
