My Project
In the midst of a mental health crisis for youth, what better way to help than to make the exploration of emotion and the seeking out of deeper meaning part of the high school vernacular? Creative Writing Students at Equipo Academy have been doing just that and for Poetry Appreciation month 2024, they will organize and participate in their very own school-wide Poetry Slam.
Students have been exploring techniques and seeking inspriation for their own poems, and now they will share that poetry joy with the rest of their schoolmates by organizing, promoting, and hosting a Poetry Slam that includes a wide variety of student poets sharing impactful spoken word poems.
Poetry is a craft that requires mastering language and knowing one's own heart, so as creative writing students prepare to compete and share their knowledge about poetry to help prepare school mates they will grow emotionally, strengthen their community ties, and learn the power of exploring emotion and meaning through precise and powerful language carefully arranged to evoke deeper truths.
