Help me give my students assistive technology! As a speech therapist, some students have little understanding of how our devices can be used as AT in/out of school. We don't have class set funding for my speech room!

My Project
I currently work in a Title I middle school where almost 20% of our population is classified as students with disabilities and about 30% are housing insecure. Our school's budget is stretched thin, as are many are across the country. At this time, many of the devices in our building are outdated, broken, or being prioritized for use in core classrooms. I have the ability to recommend that my students receive an NYC DOE assistive technology device once I am confident the student has the knowledge and skills to navigate the hardware and software; however, there is not much of an opportunity to support my students through practicing using these programs and devices if there are none in my room! I am hoping to give my students the ability to navigate these Apple iPads and their accessibility features, trial programs such as Kami, Read&Write, Notability and many more, increase self-sufficiency and confidence, and continue to work towards closing the educational gap. We hope you consider advancing our therapy room for your donation!
