Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Think back to a presentation you went to but couldn't hear everything. Were you engaged? Or did you give up and start to tune out due to the difficulty in hearing? My students are already experiencing this problem in my class, however, with a RedCat audio system this won't have to happen.

I teach Fifth Grade in an urban school district.

The 25 Fifth Grade students in my classroom this year all love learning, at least most of the time. At our school, 94.8% of the students receive free or reduced price lunch. Of the 640 students, 96.9% are minority students. The school has a vibrant community that loves to get together and celebrate between learning. Around Halloween there is a large parade to show off the beautiful costumes that students wear. On Cinco de Mayo we put on a big festival with crafts made by the students, dances, and games. At the end of the year the school hosts a carnival to celebrate the hard work put in during the school year, with a dunk tank being the most popular activity.

My Project

A RedCat audio system provides students with access to everything the teacher is saying. Research indicates that children who hear better learn better. The system allows students full access to my natural voice which will eliminate the need for repetition and increase instructional time, thus maximizing student achievement and on-task behavior. Students will use the system daily during morning meeting, to share ideas in literacy, and explain thinking during math. The system will encourage active participation and provide equal access to learning. The RedCat will add excitement to the daily lessons and engage students in their learning to make learning fun. My students will learn how to creatively use various technology and will experience this learning in multiple ways. This technology will be integrated into reading, writing, math, science, and history as well as music, arts, and physical education in ways that deepen the learning experience.

Even though we have only been a class for three weeks now, one of my students already requested I get a microphone so we can hear the soft spoken students easier.

They are excited to learn and want to hear what their classmates have to say. With a RedCat system any student can share and participate in our discussions rather than only the students who have loud voices. Help my give all my students a voice in the classroom as well as equal access to instruction.
