Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Engaging my inner-city high school biology and environmental studies students through hands-on labs, collaborative projects, and technology-driven simulations is essential to their learning experience. When physical materials are scarce, I utilize platforms like PhET and Gizmos to provide interactive simulations that allow students to explore scientific phenomena, collect data, and develop models.
My students are hardworking, curious, and thrive in hands-on learning environments.
They eagerly participate in experiments, collaborate in teams, and approach challenges with enthusiasm. However, limited funding has left us with outdated Chromebooks and insufficient devices, forcing students to share or borrow equipment.
To ensure every student has equal access to digital learning tools, I propose requesting three iPads at a time until a full class set is achieved. This investment will empower students to engage fully with interactive simulations and collaborative projects, enhancing their understanding of complex biological concepts and fostering a passion for science.
