This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The more interactive an activity is, the more my kinder students get out of it. The Epson Brightlink Solo Interactive Board allow students to learn in a very hands-on way. I hope to bring this technology to my classroom so that my students can learn in all subject areas in a more engaging way.
My students approach life with the enthusiasm and curiosity that all five-year-old children seem to have in abundance.
Despite living in a low socioeconomic area where their parents struggle to make ends meet, they are incredibly hopeful and looking forward to the future. My students' parents want the best education possible for them but due to financial constraints, many cannot afford to have books, puzzles & other educational toys at home. It is up to me & the school to provide these wonderful, amazing, eager and bright kids with a wide variety of learning tools. We are a Title 1 school, which means that we do get funds to improve the academic achievement of the disadvantage, but not enough to provide every classroom with all the "extras" that they need. In fact due to all the budget cuts, we are running very low on essential supplies such as pencils, crayons, scissors, erasers, and even multipurpose paper.
My Project
Interactive whiteboards make it easy for teachers to enhance the presentation content by easily developing a wide range of material into a lesson, such as a picture from the web, a graph from a spreadsheet or text from a Microsoft Word file. Students can then easily manipulate the content of the lesson with their finger or a pen. My students will be able to share their writing and then revise it on the board with just their finger. I hope to have them manipulate the hands of a clock to tell time, make addition and subtraction stories, move coins once they have been counted, draw 3 dimensional shapes, identify the parts of a plant...The possibilities are endless and very exciting.
The ability of the interactive boards to reach all kinds of kids with multiple learning styles is an important point - auditory, kinesthetic, visual - something that just a teacher standing in front of the room cannot do.
The interactive board will allow me to offer new and exciting learning experiences to my class and help me meet the needs of all my students.
