My students need flip cameras and accessories to record development and testing of engineering projects for evaluation and posting to internet and website.
Engineers ask "what if?" questions, imagine what could be that never has been and solve the problems to create the reality. Our reality today is that our Tech Center is literally rubble due to the May 22 tornado and we will start school in 36 days from scratch, nothing was saved.
Our technology center serves 7 different sending schools ranging in grades from 9th - 12th.
The students are economically challenged with 70% receiving free or reduced lunches. Many of the students lost everything in their homes, some lost family members, many lost friends.
However, WE ARE recovering, we will create safe, friendly and healthy environments that engage learners. My students generally will pursue degrees and then careers in Engineering, Architecture, Construction and other related areas. Some also serve our country in the military. This year 100% of my graduates were placed into higher education and/or the military. Generally they are bright, gifted and caring young people eager to make a difference in their world.
My Project
The flip cameras will enable my students to document their engineering experiences and activities. They will be able to document testing, procedures and research and development of their projects. In addition, they will create educational videos for the website, and use them in promoting our program for future students.
An example of projects that we do is Basswood bridges. They will be able to create "How to" videos for construction process and testing. They will also create videos to post to the website of the actual testing as we test the bridges to failure. Students will be able to view and compare their results not only class to class but year to year as well.
Our students have faced so many challenges in the past two months, ones that most adults will never endure.
As we look to the beginning of school and how we are going to engage and impact our students we are going to have to be more creative than ever before. This technology will be used in many ways to place the tools in their hands to enpower them to move toward the future; one filled with hope and possibilities and new discoveries.
