My Students

I teach pre-k at a Title I, low income, public school in Annapolis, Md. Our classroom is their first experience of school and will help shape their attitude of school for the rest of their young lives. Because my students spend a majority of their day in my class, I try to make it as welcoming, bright and vibrant as I possibly can. I have to admit that I also want a welcoming and fun place to spend so much of my time!

What I love about teaching pre-k students is their eagerness to interact with and learn from each other!

They love to play and I love that so much learning can take place during play!

My Project

Young engineers love to create! The best way for young minds to learn is through trial and error. Due to the large number of students in my class, currently 20, our small group math rotations consist of 4 groups of 5 students each. While 2 of the groups are working directly with a teacher, the remaining 2 groups work independently. During these math rotations I provide my students an opportunity to work collaboratively during their independent group time.

These STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) building toys are perfect for little hands!

Our class can never have too many different building toys in which to create. Because we have small group math rotations every day of the school week, I like the students to be able to create with different materials each day to keep them looking forward to this essential time during the school day.
