Students range from 14-18 and many are learning English as a second language. Located in the sunny Mission, everyday teen moms and babies come to school. Young women can start at our school while they are expecting and continue after their baby is born. Students continue with their academic education as well as learn parenting skills, healthy baby strategies and useful community resources (including jobs and money management).
Students are excited to explore a variety of science topics, especially gardens.
Recently they went to a showing of Hidden Figures & now several students want to learn more about space environments.
My Project
Our students are working on two environmental projects: Using garden resources & exploring the environment of outer space!
Students will read about projects using common garden petals and leaves, roots, seeds, and fruit.
There will be no waste!!
Students will experiment to make a natural dye or a lip balm or a facial mask. Students will find ways to add everyday garden plants in recipes, crafts, and projects.
Hidden Figures is an amazing film & made students think about the environment of outer space. Astronomy is one of the oldest sciences in the world. Now they are even more intrigued with space and astronomy! Students have many questions & want to learn more about a microgravity environment & the challenges of space travel.
