Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I presently teach 21 young scientists that are very energetic and curious students and are coming to school for the first time. They are learning to share and get along with a variety of personalities. My school is 80% free and reduced lunch and breakfast. This is a great place to teach and be a student. We are able to hike on our 39 acre campus, read in one of our many gardens, and plant a variety of vegetables in our new Learning Garden, all while learning about the environment.

My students are excited about being Future Environmental Scientists and Engineers, which is a heavy focus of our school, even in Kindergarten.

We have a STEM Clubs daily which focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. We also have a special STEM time daily in the classroom, but I need help to keep this going strong. I need lot of hands-on Environmental Science and STEM activities for my very active kids that love to design and build. With help from the Tom's of Maine Green School Fund and generous donors, we know we can make this happen for our students!

My Project

My students enroll at my school because of its heavy focus on Environmental Science and STEM education. We offer STEM daily to our students, but I need cool science kits so they can design and create environmental projects, as well as engineer cars, bridges, homes, and their own amusement park.

My students come to me with all different learning styles and need to learn to work together in learning about Environmental Science and build tolerance of how we all all different.

We focus heavily on the environment since we are lucky to be on 39 acres with a variety of outdoor learning activities. This request includes many Environmental Science items to bring the outdoors in such as a garden root viewer, a talking microscope with slides, and a botany set.
