My Students

"True wisdom is knowing what you don't know." ~Confucius. Once we figure that out, we can begin our journey.

I am teaching an elective environmental science class.

Ideally, it is the time when all the sciences come together to educate our students about their world. Usually, though, students haven't been exposed much to nature, where their food comes from, or where their waste goes. Environmental Science is a very big eye-opener for most of them.

My Project

My students need materials to inspire them about environmental science jobs, such as the eight Green-Collar career books, including Learning Green: Careers in Education, Green Careers for Dummies and Legally Green: Careers in Environmental Law and Job Titles Poster Series. My environmental science students are seniors and are applying to colleges in the beginning of the year. I'd like them to think of all the possibilities for their futures, and having a Green Science Career Fair would help them to focus their interests as well as expand their horizons. We will be doing a gallery walk and read through with the seven Green-Collar Careers books, and each student will find a green career that interests them. They will do a little more research on it using the Green Careers For Dummies book, which provides job descriptions and prospects, and present it to the class. The 201 Jobs poster set will be up in my room all year long, for my Chemistry kids as well, so that they can see all the possibilities for STEM careers and which jobs require math and science.

My students care about what they will be doing with their lives.

As a society, we should make sure that our future workforce is prepared to be kinder to our world as they go about their daily activities and duties. These materials will help many more Seniors making career decisions.
