Environmental Mysteries

My students need a variety of environmental mysteries for literature groups.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Dye's classroom raised $572

My Students

Do you remember reading a good book as a child and not being able to put it down? My students love to read and I want to provide them with mystery books that also teach about the environment.

My students are fourth and fifth graders in a self-contained highly capable program.

They read and read and read. Some students even read a book a day! I have an extensive classroom library, but it's hard to keep up with their voracious appetite for books. This year we will be studying the mystery genre. When thinking about what books to use, I decided to also tie the selection with my other interest--environmental science. I researched environmental mysteries that would be engaging and appropriate for my students.

My Project

I have selected a nice variety of mystery novels that will appeal to my highly capable students. Students will be able to read all the novels if they choose and discuss the important message(s) with their peers. Following this literature study, the students will be writing their own mystery book. The mystery novels will also provide my students with writing models. I'm sure many will make their mystery an environmental mystery.

What could be better than reading a good book with an important environmental message?

Your donation will provide my avid readers with many books and will also teach them about the environment.
