This popcorn project will provide a high school entrepreneurial pathway for students to own and operate a popcorn business. Students will work in small groups to develop the best-tasting popcorn using a variety of popping techniques, different popcorn kernels, different oils, and a variety of savory and sweet flavorings.
Students will have to develop a business plan including naming the popcorn business, developing a standard operating plan manual, cost analysis, pricing models, marketing, and a distribution model using Google Forms to create an order processing form.
Each group will present two of their popcorn creations to our student population for evaluation. Once these selections have been determined, the students will present their popcorn creations to local community members for evaluation. The team with the most favorable ratings will be enshrined in the Popcorn Emporium Hall of fame.
This project will provide students with hands-on experience in a full business life cycle project. It will be a fun and engaging project that will have a positive impact on not only the students that participate but on all students and staff on campus as we will be providing this snack for free to our campus population.
This project will provide students with the opportunity to practice 21st-century skills: Critical thinking, creative problem-solving, communication, and collaboration. Students will also have the experience of developing a business plan that they could implement in their own lives outside of the school environment.
