This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is full of enthusiastic first grade scholars who are hard-working and eager to learn. I teach at a public school in New York City where most of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Many of my students are English Language Learners coming from a high-need community. All of my students can and will achieve great academic gains this year, but they could use a little of your help.
Do you know about all the cool things you can do with a Smartboard? If you did, you would probably want to be back in first grade. I have access to a computer and a Smartboard. All I need is an LCD projector to make learning come to life for my students. Smartboards enhance student engagement and learning. They maximize active participation, and best of all, they can be integrated into all subject areas.
Imagine teaching how to edit and revise writing by circling and crossing out words on a projection of student work. No more arduous scanning, saving images, and then printing on transparency paper.
Now, think about projecting our poem of the week onto the Smartboard. Let's circle all the sight words. Maybe by Friday, we can fill in the blanks for some words that are missing. These activities currently take place in my classroom, but require hours of preparation by hand. With the time saved using this technology, I could spend more time targeting instruction for all levels in my classroom.
Imagine students manipulating large multicolored images to show their peers how to build numbers on the screen. No more magnetic blocks falling changing the number and creating confusion.
I have almost everything I need to make this kind of high-quality, ultra-engaging, time-saving teaching a reality. The only thing missing is the LCD projector. With an LCD projector and this kind of interactive learning, I am confident my students will achieve significant gains in all content areas this year and into the future.
Now, more than ever, students must become proficient in a variety of technologies at a younger age while still mastering their grade-level content. You will help level the playing field and expose my students to cutting-edge technology that they will be using in the future. Furthermore, this LCD projector will help improve instruction by appealing to all learners and allowing me more time to address student needs. Together, we can lead my students to achieving their greatest academic potential.
