My Students

Where can you teach students who identify as Hispanic, Asian or Pacific Islanders, White, Black, Multi-racial, American-Indian or Alaska Native? Who speak more than 41 languages? Who observe religions including Judaism, Christianity, Sikhism, Islam, and Hinduism? Would you believe a school on the north side of Chicago? Yes, Chicago! I am fortunate to teach in a unique environment where my students can learn and grow, not only academically, but also socially and culturally!

I strive to prepare all my students to be productive members of a global society for the 21st century and beyond, to enable those with divergent learning differences and styles, to engage in a rigorous, well-rounded instructional program, by providing them with the tools and resources necessary to learn and succeed.

All of my students have great potential, however they all have varying abilities in the ways they acquire, organize, retain, and understand verbal and non-verbal information. I'm constantly in a quandary between ensuring access to the general education curriculum, and remediation, and how to allocate time and resources effectively to address both.

My Project

My students are seventh and eighth graders. Their reading skills range from early first through eighth grade levels. The use of technology in their literacy center will give them access to a variety of reading materials, with a selection of fonts and audible narrations available as necessary.

These Amazon Fire tablets will provide students with access to reading materials at or above their independent reading levels.

Furthermore, space in our classroom is limited, making it difficult to expand our physical classroom library; a portable device, such as the Amazon Fire Tablet, will allow us to exponentially expand their selection of reading material.

The only problem would be the disputes that may arise when students have to share the devices!
