Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a class of 25 diverse students with many academic needs. A typical day is trying to rotate 15 students on 2 computers to accommodate their areas of weakness through interventions given by the district. My students love computers and having tablets would extend their learning.
My class is a mix of diverse students ranging in age from 8 to 10 years.
There are special needs, English as a second language, and retention students too. Our school is located in an urban settling and the students receive free breakfast and lunch daily. We are a K - 8 school with about 700 students attending.
The greatest challenge that I have along with the students is the technology piece in the classroom. I only have 2 working computers and the programs that are available to enhance their academics are wonderful but it is a challenge to offer it to all of my students.
My Project
My students will use the tablets to access the programs. For example, they will use the Lexia program to help them with their fluency, vocabulary, and phonemic skills. By using the tablets it will give them the confidence to become independent by taking care of the tablets and going on it on their scheduled time. The students will use these skills/strategies to build upon their reading abilities.
My project will make a difference because many of my students will get to use the tablets on a daily basis.
Instead of waiting for the 2 computers I will be able to have 4 students at a time receiving their interventions to help them become a successful student.
