This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are in critical developmental stages of reading comprehension, vocabulary acquisition, and critical thinking. Many struggle with traditional textbooks and require engaging, age-appropriate materials to foster a love for reading and build foundational literacy skills. Our classroom lacks access to consistently updated, high-quality nonfiction and fiction texts that are accessible, relevant, and connected to standards.

Scope is a language arts magazine designed for middle school students that offers a variety of genres—narrative nonfiction, plays, debates, fiction, and informational texts.

Each issue includes leveled readings, skill-building activities, and multimedia content. It aligns with Common Core standards and is ideal for guided reading, whole-class lessons, and independent exploration.

Improve reading comprehension and engagement among all students, including struggling readers.

I hope to enhance students’ understanding of literary and informational texts through diverse reading formats. Strengthen vocabulary and grammar through interactive activities and writing prompts. Foster critical thinking and argumentation through debate features and paired texts.
