Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a special education teacher and teach at campus where the majority of my students come from low income families. My students face many challenges in and out of the classroom and limited resources. I teach Pe-K, Kinder, 1st, 2nd, and 4th grade students with a variety of learning and emotional disabilities. My students need to build their self-esteem and I am hoping that bringing a pet into our classroom will give my students a sense of pride and accomplishment.
My goal for bringing a classroom pet into our class is to teach my students about responsibity as well as brining in a new way to learn
My Project
The supplies my students and I are requesting will allow us to have a safe and comfortable habitat for our soon to be classroom pet. Having the double cages will hopefully give more room to our guinea pig and give my students more room to sit around during observation time. Food and other essentials will allow my students to be prepared and have every thing they need before bringing our classroom pet into our classroom home.
Having a classroom pet will allow my students to have a sense of responsibility and respect the animals through daily observations and care.
I am hoping that a classroom pet will bring increased sensitivity and awareness of the feelings and needs of others-both animals and students. I want my students to be able to learn that all living things need more than just water and food to survive. I for them to understand and see how their behavior and actions affect others.
