My Students

My students are very active and hard working from the moment they walk into the classrooms, until it is time to go home. Their enthusiasm for learning is apparent when walking down the halls. Our students come from various backgrounds, mostly low income. Teaching children from across the globe who speak little to no English is a challenge, but the one thing we all have in common is that we're excited about learning.

I have 18 beautiful children in Kindergarten who come from different parts of Central and South America.

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom.

My Project

Research has proven that children learn through their hands. A great way to build a solid foundation in reading is through art extensions. My class loves to get messy and creative, which takes a lot of supplies. I have one student who is a budding artist. He complains that I do not have the colors he needs to draw well. I would like to get him better quality pencils, markers, and paints that will encourage him to continue to draw.

My greatest desire is for each of my students to leave my classroom having built a strong, unshakable foundation in reading- and you can help them do that by providing them the tools to get there!

Those tools include the materials I am asking you to help me provide to my students: water colors, colored pencils, water color brush pens, permanent marker, brushes, and paint paper. These art supplies will work greatly as extensions to stories: character maps, illustrations, alternative endings! The possibilities are endless!

I'd like to share my students' beautiful art by displaying it outside our classroom for all to see! Thank you for helping our students use art as an expression of what they are reading and learning in class.
