Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am blessed to have the honor of teaching an Inclusion, Pre-Kindergarten class. My students' ages range from 3 to 5 years old, and they each come in with a variety of individual needs. The needs differ from each individual child. Some are typically developing children that have the "same" basic needs as their typically developing peers while others require the assistance of an individual behavior therapist by their side. Since half of my students have to be evaluated by a psychologist to be placed in my classroom, I get new students all the way up until the end of the school year.
Many of my students are non-verbal and are unable to express their wants and needs as a typically developing child their age.
They rely a lot on picture symbols to communicate and organize their day. The printer would enable me to print their symbols as well as labels to place throughout our classroom. I would also use the printer to print out labels to label items in the classroom so that the students begin to match the label with the object thus enabling them to become better readers. As a special education teacher, I always have to write plans and special reports, the printer would also allow me to print out hard copies of my papers.
