My Project

City Center for Collaborative Learning in downtown Tucson, AZ, has made strides to revitalize our library systems with the primary goal of getting high-interest, Young Adult fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, and poetry books in the hands of all of our middle and high school students. Now we're in our first phase of expanding the collection beyond donated books.

In order to amplify, reflect, and nurture the experiences of communities of color, disability, and LGBTQIA+, please donate now to help us expand our library offerings.

To best serve a diverse population of middle and high school students with a variety of cultural backgrounds, learning styles, interests, and identities, help us ensure our library resources are as interesting and engaging as they are.

The recent work on a new library at the downtown campuses was spearheaded by a three-school library committee, including Sam Meyer, a University of Arizona graduate student working on completing her Library and Information Science degree. Originally from Pennsylvania with a BA in History, she has a long list of volunteer work and has six years of experience working in college and health science libraries.

With Sam's help, we combed through our collection, culling our books to identify approximately 1000 of the best, high quality, high interest novels. We created a new library and media center on the ground floor of 47 Pennington with these books.

This space is a multi-use media center which promotes reading, collaboration, connection, and creativity for both CHS and PFFSD. Already our students are connecting, checking out books, and expressing their excitement about their reading habits.

Literacy Integration is a foundational component of our Academic Framework, and our newly designed libraries are helping even our reluctant readers to connect with great books.
