This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Each year brings a different group of special education students to my classroom, and they come with varying needs. Over the years, I have developed a true passion for culturally responsive teaching. I believe it is so important to provide the students that I teach a safe environment in which to learn without negating their own backgrounds, cultures, and identities. As a teacher, I strive to be a teacher who embraces the differences of each of my students who enters my classroom.

Mastering academic concepts is very stressful and difficult for my students, because of their diverse disabilities, but when my students' academic needs are met, they display a positive attitude toward learning and they exhibit confidence when it comes to trying to learn.

My students "get it," because they are actively participating in their learning instead of being told what the learning is about.

Obtaining the materials that my students' need will enable me to put measures in place so lessons can be modified and accommodations can be made for my students so they can be successful in the classroom.

My Project

My special education students will be using a digital reading program called "Read 180."

My students are in need of headsets to be used with the digital "Read 180 Program" and bean bags so that they can sit in other areas of the classroom comfortably while they are completing their reading session using the program.

If my students' accommodations and modifications are put in place for them, they are more likely to be successful and soar in areas where they show weaknesses. Having access to headsets will enable my students to hear their lessons without distractions, and the beanbags can provide comfort while they are working on the reading program.
