Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Finding creative ways to encourage reading can be difficult but readers' theater can change all of that.
I teach second grade to a wonderful bunch of students.
Most of the students in my class are English language learners and they are eager to learn. Although we ask the parents to read with their children at home every night the majority of students don't live in English speaking homes. It is difficult for their parents to provide good feedback during reading or even to help them with challenging words. Readers' theater is their chance to share literature and read with a purpose. They will have that audience that can listen and enjoy the stories they read.
My Project
By providing my students with readers' theater scripts they will be able to develop fluency through repeated exposures to the text. Reading with a partner or in a small group setting will help students focus on accuracy, pace and expression. These are the skills that they will need to become fluent readers. Reading with fluency will also help them increase comprehension. Readers' theater scripts will provide students with a real purpose for reading as well as providing opportunities for cooperative learning.
Your support for this project will make a huge difference on creating life-long learning.
Reading is the key to success in school. Learning to read early on in life will create confidence and improve the self-image of students as they continue through their school years.
