My Students
I love that my after school students love to read. It gives them that time to read whatever they want or books that have been assigned to them. During this time they use the gym and sit around on mats, rocking chairs, or the floors. Our numbers of students have risen in the last few years. These students not only love to read independently but also to each other. Our older students read theme books and discuss it with the younger students.
My Project
For many students, sitting in a comfortable, inviting area allows them to concentrate on what they are reading. They tend not to fidget around when they are laying down and reading. Students seem to have trouble sitting on chairs more than thirty minutes and feeling comfortable after a long day at school. With the mats the students will be able to take a load off and just relax while getting their reading assignments done.
We will begin allowing students to do their homework in the gym.
We have had feedback from students and parents that when the student is at home they tend to lay on the couch or on their bed while doing their homework and/ or reading.
