Help me give my students an edge as they journey into a brighter future!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Our school is a K-8 Center where most of our students are English Language Learners with great aspirations. They are highly motivated despite multiple challenges they continue to face in their exigent socioeconomic environment. They all participate in the free or reduced-price lunch program offered in our school district. My students aspire to attain proficiency in the English language and to help their families while reaching their full potential. With your assistance, we can acquire the tools to forge the skills they need to reach those goals. Because of this pandemic, all our classes are still online; unfortunately, teachers and students are not equipped to facilitate this transition. We lack the technology to sustain a continuous flow of quality instruction.
Your support will provide our students with a singular tool, the Oculus Virtual Reality Headset, that will help them discover virtual reality, and fuel their creative skills. Covid-19 has disturbed the continuity of instruction in all modalities of learning. We hope, with this new tool, we can begin to bring back a sense of normalcy in teaching and learning. As students slowly start to rejoin the classroom environment, we will close the temporary trench carved in the daily learning environment.
Students will reconnect with their peers and collaborate in ways that were previously unavailable to them.
Although this pandemic has caused a great fear and uncertainty in the hearts of our students, we can use virtual simulations through the virtual reality headset to explore the physical world in ways that are still unattainable to them. Hence, they will be able to use this platform to create new realities and understand concepts and physical events that are not readily observable.
