Enhancing the Toolkit!

My Students

The students at my school are caring, fun-loving, enthusiastic learners, who especially enjoy working together and sharing their ideas and student work with one another. They have good hearts and strive to work to the best of their abilities.

Although 100% of the students at my school qualify for free lunch, due to the low socio-economic status in our community, they remain constant in their desire to learn and grow both personally and academically.

My Project

This school year, our 2nd grade teachers will be utilizing The Primary Comprehension Toolkit (K-2) series from Stephanie Harvey and Anne Goudvis as a supplement to our language arts instruction. The Toolkit provides wonderful strategies and lessons, the Teacher's Guide, and online resources to help build students' reading comprehension and background knowledge as they read to learn.

However, there are also a list of engaging trade books used in the Toolkit lessons that are not part of the Toolkit.

These books will help me to be able to deliver the rich lessons in the Toolkit as they were intended with all of its resources. I am excited to teach my students to use comprehension strategies as they encounter information and ideas in a wide variety of nonfiction texts. Having these trade books will not only enhance the Toolkit, but complete it--and will help me to help my students to become proficient readers and lifelong learners. Mahalo!
