Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Pleasant Hill Elementary STREAM Academy is a magnet school that provides students with cross-curricular learning experiences. STREAM represents science, technology, reading, engineering, arts, and mathematics. We have a STREAM Lab where students are afforded the opportunity to engage in the design process to identify problems within nature, develop a plan of action, and build the required items to serve as potential solutions to address various problems. To provide students with some of the necessary materials using technology we are seeking to purchase a class set of wired mouse, headphones, and storage to use in the STREAM Lab. Students will use these materials to fully engage in the learning process and develop skills that will enable them to confidently compete and excel in their future college and career endeavors.

These hands-on learning experiences allow the students to show proficiency in the state and local standards in an innovative way that exemplifies the goals of the profile of a South Carolina graduate.

Our school is located in a predominantly rural area that is markedly disenfranchised and essentially cut-off from the more industrious towns along the coast of South Carolina. Our hope is to offer these students an innovative them-based curriculum with career-aligned K-12 pathways via authentic learning experiences and college- and career-readiness opportunities. The result will be improved student outcomes, diversity, and equity.
