My Students

My 630 students enter my STEAM Lab full of energy! They enjoy asking thought-provoking questions as they find solutions to complete tasks. These young students are super happy to be exposed to a variety of STEAM Challenges, especially when they are carrying out a task similar to a real-life Robotics Programmer, Electronics Circuit Designer, Animator or Music Composer!

The motivation of my students to become leaders in a 21st Century World never ceases to amaze me!

We are a Title I school, which means that we receive financial assistance due to a high percentage of students from low-income families. This year, our school qualified for a federally-funded program that provides free breakfast and lunch to all students. Many of my students face personal challenges outside of our learning environment. Nevertheless, they eagerly participate when in my STEAM Lab, crave new experiences and enjoy sharing their learning with others!

My Project

Parents are curious about their child’s STEAM experiences, and students are eager to include their families in their learning. Those are a few reasons why we now have a STEAM Lending Library in our school. To encourage parental involvement and provide learning opportunities beyond the classroom, students are able to check out a canvas tote bag that includes: 1 STEAM device/item, 1 children's book, 1 camera (for documentation of use with family) and a Challenge Card. My students and their families are thoroughly enjoying reading the book and using the device to complete 3 challenges!

My young learners are our future inventors, engineers, and animators, so they need as many STEAM experiences as we can give them to succeed.

The inclusion of Stikbot Studio kits supports my professional goal of fulfilling each child's potential. These items will be a great addition to the STEAM Lending Library, as the "A" in STEAM is currently underrepresented. Stikbot Studio allows you to create and share stop motion animation with friends and family. This kit includes a "green screen" box, 1 bendable character, 1 bendable animal and a cell phone tri-pod. Stikbot Studio will provide engaging performing arts experiences while developing logic and problem-solving skills too. It will definitely appeal to my students who enjoy creativity through story-telling and movie making.

As an elementary teacher, I am faced with the challenge of preparing students for jobs that don't yet exist. Offering a variety of STEAM experiences will give ALL of my students an additional avenue to gain the lifelong benefits of soft skills that all employers are seeking in their employees, while expressing their imagination and creativity.
