This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are eager, active, curious, and imaginative hands-on learners. My students show up to class daily and work diligently to overcome the many challenges they face living in the inner city.
Being a teacher in this global technological age I have to be well prepared to offer my students the best and current learning practices and pedagogy to help them be college and career-ready.
I seek to meet this challenge head on by developing effective lessons through professional development online courses offered by iTunes University, Sophia for Teachers, TeachersFirst’s “OK2Ask”, ASCD, TeachingChannel, and edWeb. I have made it a personal mission to always stay up to date on the latest educational pedagogy, techniques, and tools.
My Project
I am requesting an Asus Zenbook laptop computer to access the plethora of online professional development courses offered by the University of Cambridge through iTunes University, Sophia for Teachers, TeachersFirst’s “OK2Ask”, ASCD, TeachingChannel, and edWeb. For example, I want to enhance my Math curriculum by following an iTunes course on Understanding Numbers and the Number System. Also, I would like to take the ASCD course on "Teaching Students to Drive Their Brains" to learn about the key skill of metacognition and how it is one of the characteristics of high-achieving students. Furthermore, I am highly interested in Capella University’s “Professional Development Courses for Digital Age Classroom” that covers a wide range of 21st century topics crucial for my students learning and advancement.
I always strive as a teacher to be informed as to the best educational practices that will engage my students in their learning and help them meet the rigorous Common Core standards as well as give them the 21st century skills necessary for success.
I truly believe that by improving my teaching pedagogy and lesson planning skills through courses offered on iTunes University and many other online professional development websites, I can positively affect student learning and engagement.
