Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

What makes this project unique is that everything is tailored to enhance student engagement with the material, with the instructor, and most importantly, with each other. Covid 19 has negatively impacted student engagement in classrooms because students have become accustomed to distance learning and feel disconnected in live classrooms. Each item on my list will positively impact student engagement in some way. One adjustable lectern will be used by the instructor to stand while delivering lessons to ensure all students can see and hear the instructor, while the other lecterns are for students to utilize when they are having trouble focusing and want to stand for a few minutes (this is an especially useful accommodation for students with learning disabilities). The expo pens and erasers are for students to use on our "Wonder Wall" (a wall dedicated for students to share philosophical questions, which the class votes on and then discusses). The rolling chair is so that the instructor can easily join students at their desk during student-led activities and small group collaborations (it makes it easier to see student laptops and drives teacher facilitation of activities/discussions). The three philosophy books are for "Questions of the Day" where students are allowed to reflect deeply upon a philosophical topic and then discuss their ideas in an intellectually safe environment (we talk about what they want to talk about). The MLA book is for instructor and student reference to ensure proper parenthetical citations are being used. The Teachers-Pay-Teachers gift cards are for the instructor to purchase presentations and visual aids to improve student comprehension during lessons.
