Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach children in a low-income and high poverty neighborhood in the inner city of Los Angeles. At this Title I school, 100% of my students receive free lunch.
Though their economic standing has them encountering many challenges, struggling to receive an exemplary education will not be one of them as far as I am concerned.
My hope is to provide my students with the highest expectations so that they can succeed in their lives, education, and careers. To help me do that, I need resources that these students may not have readily available.
My Project
Small group instruction is used to help students who sometimes struggle with certain areas of learning. Every day I meet with these students to ensure that they are learning new concepts and progressing in their reading.
Since this is a way to differentiate instruction, I wanted to find ways to differentiate the area the students work in.
I am requesting bouncy seating chairs for my students and dry erase circles to help enhance our small group instruction space. Sometimes it's my most energetic students who need extra assistance, so I wanted to give them the option to sit on a different kind of chair for when I am offering them support in a small group. I also wanted to get the dry erase circles, so the students can show their learning in a different way. These dry erase circles will allow the students to write directly on the tables. Sometimes these small adjustments can make a huge impact, so I wanted to build a space for them that will make learning fun and different.
