My Project
This project aims to provide essential sensory materials and hands-on manipulatives for students with extensive support needs in our autism program, fostering an inclusive learning environment. The materials will help students regulate their emotions and sensory needs, often hindering engagement and learning. Tools like fidget items, noise-canceling headphones, and weighted items will support self-regulation, enabling students to stay calm and focused during lessons. Additionally, hands-on learning manipulatives will allow students to engage with core curriculum standards concretely and visually, enhancing their learning experiences. By incorporating these materials into our daily instruction, we can offer personalized learning that addresses the diverse needs of our students. We aim to ensure equitable access to the curriculum for all students, improve academic and social performance, and promote social-emotional growth. Some of our students are multilingual learners, and some use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices, each requiring tailored learning programs. Providing these resources aims to boost their confidence, develop self-regulation skills, and deepen their engagement with the curriculum. Ultimately, this project is vital for empowering students with the necessary tools to succeed academically and socially, creating a more equitable learning environment that honors each student's unique potential.
