Enhancing our Love of Math with Counting Collection Kits

Help me give my students a wide variety of hands on, engaging, and enriching "Counting Collections" math kits that are well organized and easy to access for multiple types of learners.

My Project

"Counting Collections" is a playful and engaging math routine for children. It's a way for students to interact with authentic counting opportunities.

This student centered process helps build confidence and creates space for joyful interactions in math.

Counting collections gives students space to grow in their mathematical thinking. It gives kids new ways to organize thoughts and ideas in a low pressure setting - which is crucial in math and beyond!

Our kindergarten class is full of kids with great ideas! These collection kits will help foster our goal of growing into critical thinkers! It also helps us reach the many math goals we have as kindergartners - such as one to one correspondence, skip counting, estimating and place value.

As part of this routine, students choose a set of "collections," then have time to organize, count, record, and share their ideas. My goal is to give students a wide variety of materials, space to work, and a place to organize and store the collections so that we're able to easily access materials needed for successful learning.
