Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The challenge facing my students is the lack of current technology within my classroom. In order to reinforce the lessons I teach, the book manufacturers provide software that allows students to increase their learning. The computers in my class are older than my students and can't run the software.
The school that I teach at in California is a Title 1 school.
Due to the major financial crisis our school like many others has faced enormous budget cuts. My 5th grade class of 33 students possess a great capacity and willingness to learn. Many of my students do not have access at home to computers and the Internet. Unfortunately, because the 4 computers in my classroom are older than my students, I am unable to use the media associated with the curriculum for 5th grade. So ultimately my students are being cheated out of the full experience by not being able to access the software.
My Project
By requesting a laptop and speakers, my entire classroom would be able to benefit at the same time because it would allow me to be able to enhance the core curriculum lessons that are being taught. My ultimate goal is to be able to set up a media hub where individual students as well as groups can experience the software. Students would be able to create power point presentations which is part of the standards for my grade.
To be able to use the software that our Math and Language Arts programs provides for us would definitely have a positive impact on my students.
It is extremely important to me to make sure that my students are not left behind in a world where technology is constantly growing. If students are not exposed to technology today, they will not be ready for the technology of the future.
