Enhancing Our Guided Reading Station With Technology
My students need a laptop to enhance our guided reading stations and to promote the use of technology in my ELA STEM class.

My Students
My school was recently damaged due to Hurricane Harvey. My school is recognized as a Title I school, which means that most of the students I service come from low socioeconomic families. I teach 7th grade English Language Arts STEM.
Many of my students have lost their homes and worry about what the future holds for them since the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey has left us without our other middle school and our only feeder high school for this school year.
The students in my class are eager to learn. They love to participate, and any opportunity they get to share what they have learned with their peers makes them excited. This is the first year that we have added a STEM Academy to our district. However, the damages left behind by Hurricane Harvey have taken away some of my teacher resources that are needed to effectively run my class.
My Project
My students are hungry for engaging activities and an opportunity to practice their reading skills. Even though they are resilient learners they still struggle with some of the concepts of English Language Arts. As their instructor, it is my job to make the content meaningful and help them become successful readers.
Teaching 21st-century students 21st-century skills requires reaching them where they are and the use of technology will allow me to do that and much more.
My students need a new classroom computer. There are so many technology-based resources that I can use in my class to help motivate my students to become the best readers they can be. Moreover, my STEM students will have new opportunities to utilize technology in their learning.
