Enhancing Our Computer Literacy For The 21st Century
Teacher Professional Development: I need a Mac Book Pro to work on professional development and help guide my students be computer literate. <profdevpilot>
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We live in a world where computer literacy is of paramount importance and in order for my students to remain relevant and competitive it is important that they are taught computer literacy skills. My students will benefit from having a teacher who is striving to keep up to date with technology.
My students are from a low income, high poverty community with many of them coming from diverse cultures.
They are hard working individuals who are eager to learn about computer literacy skills. It is of paramount importance that my students learn useful tools that will help them succeed in school rather than be sidetracked with the many societal issues they face on a daily basis.
My school is working very hard to keep teachers up to date with technology. We have professional development geared toward increasing teachers' technology knowledge at a school site and district wide level. As a school site we are looking forward in implementing with our students the websites and online tools available in order to empower our students to remain competitive in the 21st century. The district is also offering teacher training opportunities to increase their computer knowledge. In order to be able to keep on track with the trainings offered, it is important that teachers have the basic tools.
My Project
My students will greatly benefit from having a teacher who is striving on a daily basis to be computer literate and transfer that knowledge to them so that they can remain competitive in a world where computers are essential for success in life. I will go to district trainings over the summer in order to expand my knowledge of IOS devices and the numerous applications available in order to teach her students how to successfully utilize various tools.
The goal throughout the school year will be that students become highly proficient in computer knowledge and various tools. It is the expectation that the students will create a google document and presentation for a project based learning project on life science. They will also engage in research and create Prezi presentations on a body system. Students will also use websites as we transition toward a paperless classroom. By doing this, students will be able to view/submit various assignments, projects, and tests.
This project will make a big difference in my classroom, particularly it will facilitate classroom instruction.
Most importantly, students will greatly benefit by learning essential computers skills such as google drive, Prezi, schoology, and other useful online tools. My students lives will be positively changed. By engaging them in computer literacy they will have a healthful and positive guidance that will keep them from falling victims to other dangers that they face in their community.
