Enhancing Our Classroom for Our Exceptional Children!

My students need new academic and sensory items including adaptive mealtime items, tactile letters, dressing frames and a SensaRock to continue to be successful in our classroom.

My Students

My students are an amazing group of young people. They have made significant progress over the last few months and are becoming more independent every day! I think that by incorporating new academic tools and additional sensory equipment, we can continue to maximize potential.

We currently have three students in our classroom, which is located within a large, public school.

Our students have a great time at school and enjoy socialization, inclusion activities, and increasing their independence in their daily routine. They are vibrant students who require direct adult supervision throughout their school day in order to safely learn. Our school is large in size, but the community of it remains intimate. The general education classes embrace our students and make daily efforts to build meaningful relationships with our students and assist them if needed. The relationships that exist between our students and the rest of the school allow all students to develop empathy, appreciate diversity, and build a strong sense of community among one another.

My Project

I have asked for a variety of materials for our classroom in order to enhance our students' experience in class. Tactile letters to assist my students as they work on their handwriting and learning to identify letters. They will allow every student, including my student with visual impairment. Weekly, the students work on identifying the letters that are used with the day of the week, their names, and other familiar sounds and words. I also requested a variety of art supplies, such as jumbo crayons and canvases for their weekly art projects. The students need new adaptive mealtime equipment to replace items that are older. Dressing frames will help our students gain skills to dress and undress themselves by allowing them to work with snaps, buttons, and zippers. The Gonge Rock Around and the SensaRock both assist students with their vestibulation system. Jelly BeadZ are a fun way to engage in sensory exploration! Finally, the jumbo Connect 4 game will offer a fun new inclusion activity.

Donations to this project will allow my students to increase their independence and grow academically.

They will also help my students maintain more appropriate behavior, which allows them to enjoy their time more at school. This all ultimately improves the lives of my students' families. In addition, when our community sees my students succeed, despite physical obstacles, it inspires them to be more generous and resilient. In other words, your donations will help my students change the world!
