I would like my students to experience math through technology. Most students will tell you they hate math. At the beginning of the year, I tell my students they will love math by the end of the year.
Using technology in the classroom helps to encourage their love for math. It allows the students to see that there is more to math than pencils and paper. I like to introduce concepts using manipulatives. We practice these concepts with manipulatives, worksheets and performance assessments. If I had a projector, I could introduce the concept, offer practice, and reinforce the concept with this technology. It would allow me to introduce my students to a whole new world of math. I would be able to access United Streaming on a regular basis in my classroom. We could visit math internet sites and review for tests.
I teach a large middle school in Louisiana. Our school has 900 + students. Our parish has acquired many students from the New Orleans area. I teach several of those students. I also teach an inclusion class. I have special education students in a regular education class. These students need more modifications and accomodations than regular education students. The projector would be a very valuable asset to this class. I teach oaver 150 students each day. These students have a variety of learning styles. This projector would be beneficial to my visual and auditory learners.
The materials I need for this are a projector, an audio visual cart for the projector, and my personal laptop.
Enhancing a math lesson with technology allows the students to experience math in a variety of learning styles. Many students do not like math. I want to let my students experience math in a variety of ways. I think this will make them grow to love math.
