My Students
Help my first graders to get excited again about learning!!! First grade is one of the hardest grades to teach, especially when you have a class of 24 and your students are coming in on reading levels ranging from preschool to 3rd grade. Each student is unique and has a unique learning style.
My classroom is full of 24 fun and energetic first graders.
They are all unique in their personalities, learning styles, and reading levels, but one thing remains constant...the need for more hands on language and music activities. My students need to experience that learning can be fun and that it doesn't always have to be something they need to dread. My class is located in a public school in Utah.
My Project
With these materials, my students will have many hands on activities that will help them improve in many language areas including: rhyming, sight word recognition, blends, word building, word families, and many others. They will be able to work independently practicing many of the concepts that they struggle with. In the past, I've had to use worksheet after worksheet to give the students the practice they need with the different language concepts. With the hands on learning games and activities I won't have to do this anymore. These games and activities make learning fun and exciting for the students. With these materials learning about sight words or word families will be FUN instead of boring!!
First grade is the grade where students learn to love or to hate school.
Through the language activities I can buy through this grant, I KNOW that I will see great improvements in my students reading abilities and language skills. I will also see a LOVE for school. Music is such an amazing way to teach ANY topic to a child. With the Cd's I will be able to purchase my students will be able to connect the concepts we are learning to a song and will better be able to recall these concepts.
