Enhancing Library for the Littles

Help me give my students a library space that will promote literacy, language and phonics in a welcoming, soft, comfy area!

My Project

I have a SPED class in California with nine amazing students. Before they can read, they will learn early literacy skills through stories, songs, conversation, and letter/sound recognition. They also need to feel comfortable, safe, and calm.

Being able to calm themselves down in a cozy library space will help with their self-regulation as well as support their pre-literacy foundation and help them to grow their love for literacy .

In order to create a library area that is high quality, I need the following items.

To make it cozy and inviting; we are asking for large pillows, a carpet, and a personal gazebo/bean bag. Esthetics of the area are very important.

For Letter and sound recognition ;We are asking for various alphabet materials as well as Big Books that the teacher can read to all kids at once that come with props, to be sure to promote language /vocabulary and comprehension using visuals which is important for non verbal children like kids in my class.

For body regulation ; I asked for body socks which will help them to calm their body if over excited and sensory tiles.

All the items requested will provide the tools I need in the class to help the kids become successful readers and lifelong learners, while giving them a new exciting and inviting library area.
