My students need Leapster2 Handhelds & games to explore their learning skills in a fun way that will allow them to work individually while building self-confidence.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
All students deserve a chance to learn and have fun doing it!
My students are all learning English as a second language.
Our school is in a high poverty area where all students are provided with free breakfast and lunch. Our school is also one of the oldest in the neighborhood, almost 100 years old, and we don't have many new resources to share with the children. Most of my students are very excited about learning and often look for ways to show off their skills.
My Project
The Leapster2 pads will be a great start for the students who are ready to work independently. As the Leap Frog products are geared towards education, we can trust that the games will all meet the students' needs and not just be played for fun. The Leapster2 is made for children between the ages of 4-8, which makes it perfect for my first grade students. These handhelds will benefit all students, whether they are working above or below grade level. Also, the games address different skills in reading, math, problem solving, and more.
These handhelds were also chosen because they do not require an Internet connection to work. Because our school is older, we do not have reliable internet function within every classroom.
Even though we've only requested a couple of handhelds and a few games, these will go a long way towards providing great motivation for the students.
They will be able to take turns using the Leapster2 to have fun and learn while doing it!
