Our school strives to find the unique abilities in all students. Every child has capabilities, talents, and strengths; sometimes, all it takes is exposure or motivation. The students in my class strive for excellence and work as a community to build each other up.
My two classes consist of 45 outstanding and motivated learners.
They come from a diverse back ground and inspire me day in and day out. They all do their personal best to contribute to our classroom and school community.
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. When we are doing independent work, student's will be encouraged to choose the seating option that works best for them. Right now, we have desks, clipboards, stools, and lounging on the floor. It's interesting to watch where they choose.
The work they produce when they are more comfortable is amazing and they are more excited to get to work because the space they have is "their own." My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work.
The items that I am asking for will help my students by giving them additional seating options and hopefully even more engagement will happen. The wobble stools are adjustable and will allow students to sit at desk/higher tables but will still allow some movement. These will be extremely beneficial for some students that just need to get the wiggles out. They can also be used as an alternative chair if needed! The comfy floor seats and the beanbag chair will allow for additional comfortable floor seating options. They are lightweight and can be easily used in many areas of the classroom.
I have seen how choice can positively affect my students work and demeanor and hope the trend continues with this grant.
